On Design

Much is wrong in the graphic design world. For one, the talent pool is severely diluted. I blame places that advertise on daytime television during court shows. Think places like Brown College, DeVry, ITT Tech and their ilk. Creativity cannot be taught so stop taking money from unsuspecting schmucks who think differently. My other point is the pay scale. Think higher. If you freelance, be realistic. You’ll probably fill half of your time with actual work so bill accordingly. $40/hour isn’t exactly unrealistic. $160/day sounds impressive but remember you likely have to fund your own healthcare, retirement and still have to pay taxes out of that pool. Don’t lower yourself to individuals who think paying $50 for logo creation is a lot of money. It’s basically nothing. Even if the client has a solid concept in mind, it will take much longer than 75 minutes after second and third revisions are calculated.

Is there more to come on this topic? Oh yes.
