On the future

I usually reserve this space for my most bizarre thoughts but sometimes those get shelved in favor of something relevant and with actual purpose.

The future is calling. The question that remains to be answered is this: “Is anyone going to answer the call?”

I wish I could remember where I heard the discussion earlier this week about history and how the past few weeks in addition to the coming months will likely be something that is read about in history books. There are two directions that the history books could recount the final half of 2008. These months (and those that follow) could be marked as the time when America finally lost all influence in the world as a whole and finally sunk into obscurity as the richest third-world country on Earth.

Or it could be remembered as the time when America experienced a great rebirth. It could be the time when the old ways were finally tossed aside for good and new ways of thinking, doing and acting were embraced.

If the direction of our future heads toward the latter, it won’t be just one man or woman leading the charge. Sure, they could definitely spur the charge but it will take brilliant minds, hard work and unity to achieve this change. Think of it as a new renaissance where people took back the power that mega-corporations held over us for far too long.

Think of the possibilities which a new renaissance could hold. The projects on the drawing board to solve our current problems may very well look archaic when compared to the creative and fascinating ideas that we are currently contemplating. They won’t be technologically-centric but there’s no doubt in my mind that technology will play an immense role if this new renaissance is to be achieved.

I, for one, am eager for the future. I am excited about what tomorrow holds. I am always waiting for the next big thing and I am always working on my own ideas and I hope that others are using their, however miniscule, spare time to create and ponder. Even the smallest spark of ingenuity you dream up could become reality.

Sure, not everybody is a great thinker but we also need the great doers. We need skilled people to transfer these ideas from concept to completion. We need everyone to contribute if we are going to change the future for good. Hope is a great concept but only when coupled with action does it bring about change that we can see.

If this post spurs just one person to forward it or reblog it or even read it through from beginning to end, I have done my job.
